The evolution of my recent botanical mural for a beauty salon

Here are work in progress shots of my recent botanical mural which I was commissioned to paint for the new Beauty Secrets salon in Hove.

I began with my illustrations as a starting point and gradually built up the design using a pencil to draw in the leaf shapes. Once the basic structure was in place, I was able to allow the design to grow organically, painting free style the Gingko Biloba plant as it curved around the interior archway.

I used a mixture of paints by Little Green and Johnsons. The fabulous gold paint is by Mylands.

The finished mural has a clarity and crispness to its design. It's all in the edges!

The waiting area is transformed and it was wonderful to hear the feedback from clients as they watched me paint! January 2026
