Here are work in progress shots of my recent botanical mural which I was commissioned to paint for the new Beauty Secrets salon in Hove. I began with my illustrations as a starting point and gradually built up the design using a pencil to draw in the leaf shapes. Once the basic structure was in place, I was able to allow the design to grow organically, painting free style the Gingko Biloba plant as it curved around the interior archway. Bringing cool greens and large foliage shapes to a courtyard garden near the seaside in Hove, this design brief was all about creating an oasis in the city. I used a single colour for each section of the mural creating simple organic abstract shapes. As with most of my murals I paint free hand - treating the wall like one of my giant canvases , rarely scaling up. My favourite paints of the summer by Little Green Paint Company were fabulous for this project. August 2025.
