A hand painted Charleston House inspired staircase mural for a home in Brighton

I'm delighted to have completed my Charleston inspired mural for the staircase of this Brighton home. The interior of the early Victorian house is awash with features and the clients asked for a design that would compliment the architecture of the house.
Inspired by the washy hand painted interiors at Charleston House, East Sussex, I designed a series of mural concepts. Ultimately the chosen design was a distillation of these early ideas.
The project took one week to paint and the finished design flows between abstraction and botanical shapes, working it's way gently up the wall to the first floor landing.
I mixed my own paints for this project to create this soft chalky palette using a base of Little Greene Paint and Farrow and Ball emulsions.
