Gathering inspiration for a new summer mural in Brighton

Living Wall Murals design inspiration

I'm delighted to be designing a summer mural for a lovely home in Brighton. The brief is for soft geometric shapes flowing up the staircase. Initially the idea came to the clients after they visited Charleston House in Sussex. I'll be sourcing inspiration from the beautiful murals in the house and from other sources that mean a lot to me.

Sometimes it's every day things that catch my eye when it comes to designing a mural. Last weekend I took some photographs of these abstract tiles at my friends' house in Brighton.

So much to say about these. I love the colours, the brushy softness of the shapes against the crispness of the line. The repeat patterns that feel random but all work together in a pattern.

For my mural I'll be drawing on this elements whilst also looking to historical masters of painting and abstraction. Figures such as Paul Klee for his clean graphic shapes or the soft lines and brushmarks of Helen Frankenthaler.
