Sometimes a wall is so big and the design a little complicated that using a scaling up method is needed. For this wall at Kusaki in Brighton, we used the doodle grid technique - a method we speak about in more detail in our book Making Murals.
This technique needs a pen and iPad.
The steps are - draw out shapes randomly on the wall.
Download photoshop.
Take a picture of the wall with the doodles on. Then layer the doodle image underneath an image of your design on the screen.
And result! You have an overlapping design image and wall and can see where each element of your design meets each doodle mark.
You can now draw the mural onto the wall.
